Every year, plenty of caravanners make the trek from Cairns to Karumba, but do it along the bitumen, taking the Savannah Way. For those who prefer the less crowded route, more free camps, better fishing and more wild-life experiences, the Burke Developmental Road is the best way to go. You’ll need to be able to handle some rougher roads, bull-dust and maybe even some mud, but as the guys from Wild Travel Story show us in the first part of their trip across the top end, this is a stunning part of Queensland.
